Report on the quiz program
The quiz program, which was scheduled on Saturday the 21st September 2013 and the communication was sent to all the colleges of Karnataka with the required instructions related to the event. The program commenced at 9 am with the formal registration of the teams and the participants wherein the participants. All the students were formally welcomed and a detailed instructions of the whole program was given to them. A total of 49 teams registered with a maximum of teams from an institute.
The quiz started with a preliminary round at 10:00 AM. The preliminary round included a written multiple choice questions with 100 questions covering most of the areas of undergraduate pathology. A maximum time of 90 minutes was given to the participants.
After this the papers were evaluated and the top six teams were selected for the final round. The selected finalists included : Chinthana L & Divya C Ragate, from
Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute, Bangalore; Shwetha R Poojary & Kritika D Shenoy from KMC, Mangalore; Amogh S Kittur & Satvika Janarthanam from Belgaum Institute of Medical Sciences, Belgaum; Amrutha G Solanke & Anusha R Kulkarni from Belgaum Institute of Medical Sciences, Belgaum; Amoolya lois & Sahana Dixit V from Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences, Hassan; Keerthika Reddy & Dhruthi Kodethoor from Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangalore.
The instructions and the whole plan of the final session was given to the finalists. The Finals started at 1: 30 PM. The final session included 8 rounds with a few rounds having subrounds.
The first two rounds was conducted by Dr.Siddique , Professor of Pathology, Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute, Bangalore, The first round included history which further included both Western contributors and Indian contributors.
The second round included questions on stains & techniques.
This was followed by a round on clinical Pathology and hematology conducted by Dr.Dayananda BS Professor of Pathology, Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute, Bangalore;
The next two rounds were carried out by Dr.Natarajan M, Professor of Pathology, Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute. The two rounds includes (a) Cause and effect where in the students had to identify the image and mention its cause and effect (b) match and mismatch round in which two images were displayed and the students had to identify each of these images and mention whether they are matching or not.
The next two rounds were conducted by Dr.Nandeesh BN, Asst. Professor of Pathology, Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute. The rounds included (a) Simile round (b) Pathology Crossword.
The final round was a rapid fire round conducted by Dr.Dayananda BS Professor of Pathology, Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute, Bangalore;
Finally the program ended with a Valedictory function which was graced by Dr.D.Raviprakash, the Director cum Dean of Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute and Dr.BS Shivaswamy, the Medical Superintendant of Victoria Hospital, Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute. The other dignitaries on the diaz included Dr.Vijay Shankar S,the secretary of KCIAPM, Dr.Dayananda BS,Professor & Pathology,Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute, & Dr.Siddique executive committee member of KCIAPM, Professor of Pathology,Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute, Bangalore;
Dr.BS Shivaswamy addressed the gathering with his words of wisdom followed by DR.Vijayshankar who put across the achievements & plans of KCIAPM.
Dr.Dayananda announced the results of the quiz with first prize going to :
Shwetha R Poojary & Kritika D Shenoy of KMC, Mangalore; The second place going to Chinthana L & Divya C Ragate of Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute, Bangalore and the third place to Amogh S Kittur & Satvika Janarthanam of Belgaum Institute of Medical Sciences, Belgaum;.
The prize included cash prize and certificate. After the presidential address by the Dean, Dr.Dayananda gave the vote of thanks.
The feedback received from the participants was good and positive. Most of them opined that they enjoyed the quiz.
