The IXth Annual State Level KCIAPM postgraduate Pathology Quiz was conducted on 31st January 2020 at ESIC Medical College and PGIMSR, Rajajinagara, Bengaluru 560010.
An organizing committee was constituted and various responsibilities were distributed. The committee met on various occasions to design the course of the event. Initial intimation was sent to various medical colleges in Karnataka, through phone. A detailed brochure containing the registration details was prepared and was dispatched through speed post to all Medical Colleges in Karnataka about a month before the conduct of the Quiz programme. Requests were also made through phone to HoD’s of Pathology department of various medical colleges to send their students for this programme.
The brochure was displayed on KCIAPM website for information to various colleges, faculty and students. A dedicated e-mail ID was created for this quiz program for easy communication with the participants.
A maximum of two teams recommended by the Head of the pathology department of respective colleges was considered as official team representing the college.
A total of 38 teams (76 students) from various medical colleges had registered for the quiz programme.
Proceedings on the day of Quiz:
8.00 AM to 9.00 AM
Students reported to the registration desk at 8.00AM. Breakfast was arranged at the venue and after finishing registration formalities; students had their breakfast and proceeded to the 250 capacity multipurpose hall for conduct of Preliminary Round.
9.30 AM to 10.30 AM
Preliminary round – Question booklets in the form of MCQ’s with 60 questions were issued to the students with a time limit of one hour. Results of the preliminary round were announced after the inaugural session.
10.45 AM to 11.30 AM
The event was inaugurated in the presence of the following dignitaries.
Dr Usha Kini, KCIAPM President, Dr Jeetendra Kumar J M, Dean, ESIC MC & PGIMSR, Bangalore; Dr Padmaja, Deputy Medical Superintendent, ESIC MC & PGIMSR, Bangalore; Dr Srinivasamurthy V, Director Professor and Head, Organizing chairman, Department of Pathology, Dr Deepak Kumar B, Professor of Pathology and Organizing Secretary, Dr Vani B R, Professor of Pathology. Dr Srinivasa Murthy V welcomed the dignitaries. Ms Sohani, our 2nd year MBBS student, invoked the blessings of almighty. Lighting of the lamp was done by the dignitaries. KCIAPM President Dr Usha Kini, Dr Jeetendra Kumar JM and Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Padmaja, spoke on the occasion and wished all the participants good luck. Dr Sandyalakshmi BN, Associate Professor, delivered the Vote of Thanks and marked the end of inauguration ceremony. The entire inaugural session was co-ordinated by our Postgraduates Dr Snehalatha and Dr Nidhi Nair.
11.30 AM to 11.45 AM – Tea Break
11.45 AM to 12 Noon:
The results of the preliminary round were announced after the tea break. The 06 teams selected for the final round were

As the team (students) who had secured 6th place were not present at the start of the final round, and after giving adequate time the team could not make it, the next team as per the score was considered for the sixth place. Among them, Dr Sadiya and Dr Shilpa from B M Patil Medical College, Bijapur were selected.
12.30PM to 1.45PM: Final round – First round – four levels
1.45PM to 2.15PM: Lunch
2.30PM to 4.30PM: Final round – Second, Third, Fouth and Fifth Rounds.
Before the beginning of the final round and also before the start of each round instruction were given to the 6 teams.
The final quiz was conducted by Dr Deepak Kumar, Professor and Organizing secretary. Final quiz was divided into 5 rounds consisting of contribution of pioneers to the field of pathology (Scientists), eponyms, gross and microscopy, pictorial round, General and systemic pathology, haematology, cytopathology, Autopsy, Special stains, cytogenetics, molecular pathology and Immunohistochemistry. Round 4 and 5 were designed as buzzer rounds and rapid fire rounds respectively. Cytology Round was conducted By Dr Vani, Prof of Pathology. At the end of each round, an audience question was put up and every right answer by the audience was awarded with a gift.

Valedictory function:
First prize winners were awarded Trophy, a memento, winning certificate and a cash prize of Rs.5000/-. 2nd prize winners were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 3000/-, certificate and memento. 3rd prize winners were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 2000/-, certificate and memento.
The Organizing team thanked all the HODs, faculty and participants for coming all the way from different medical colleges in Karnataka and making the program a successful event.
