The day begins…

You reach for me

and life courses through my veins

I open my third eye

to flood you with bright light

The stage is set for you to perform….

As you place the first slide on my shoulder,

I murmur a prayer for you…

You lean on me and press your eyes into mine

I see brown eyes brighten with anticipation

I hear you grunt “Ah! A good one”

I wince as you murmur a range of irrelevant differentials

I smile as you finally grin and say “This is it”

And you make my day…

As you hunch over me the whole day

I watch you sweat over the tough ones

I look at your disappointment at the impossible ones

I see your quiet tears of shame over the wrong ones

And I say “You shall overcome; there is always a way”

‘cause

I have seen you shine with your brilliant deductions

I have seen you excel where others failed

I have seen the humility to accept your limitations

I have seen the light of hope in your eyes

And the promise that “I shall always do what is right””

I forgive you when

You huff and puff into my face

You scratch my body with sharp slides

You smear my nose with oil

You wring my knob ears so hard that I weep

only, if you promise to use a tissue at least once a day.

As you switch off my light for the day,

I pray to the God of ‘scopes to shower upon you

the strength to commit to nothing but the truth

the determination to delve deeper into problems

the mind of steel to resist the temptation to bend the truth

And a heart of iron to turn a blind eye to the faces of the patients whose life you are about to change.

PS:  In return, can you please to use a mouth freshener?
